Gordon Stokes-Roberts 1923-2007
Sadly I have to report the death of Gordon at the age of 84.
He served as a navigator in Burma in the second world war. He played for Erdington Chess Club before moving to the Black Country where he continued playing chess with WDCL Wolverhampton Kipping Chess Club, WDCL Goodyears Chess Club, WDCL Dudley Chess Club and finally WDCL Mercia Chess Club, being a founder member of the latter. He played in congresses where he won a number of prizes. He was a well respected man and will be sadly missed. (information supplier by K.A.J.Francis of Mercia CC.)
